Now more than ever WE as community members, locals, business owners, customers, builders, architects, students, teachers, families, and individuals need to refocus our efforts on becoming more efficient, selfsufficient and sustainable in our everyday practices. Our motivation not only rests in the creation of usable, functional space, but also its ability to adapt and maintain itself through the changes of economic, social and environmental forces. By understanding the methodologies of responsible design and building, people-oriented space transcends itself from a site, leaving an ever-evolving adaptable “place”, generation after generation.

WHAT

TALK By Design is a Design/ Build firm who specializes in designing and building around the concepts of sustainability.  With the knowledge and passion of both designer and builder, we merge 14 years in the building industry with a product that addresses the social changes and economic demands of our homes and communities.  We are guided by the principals of utilizing locally available products, implementing sources of renewable energy, creating place, and designing around the concepts of positive adaptation in each of our projects.

WHY

As designers and builders, we believe that responsible design is not a matter of platinum ratings or trendy buzz words, but a commitment to the many environments of people and their places.  Our ideas and ethics revolve around creating place and space that compliment the surrounding aesthetic and context while surpassing the understated demands of the environment. Successful buildings are those that are continually used year after year, being passed down through generations because they are adaptable, economical to maintain, and efficiently exist in providing comfort to its users. Buildings should be constructed to be used, to last, and to enjoy. These are all effects of good design and quality building.

HOW

The key component of a well-designed, well-built building occurs before pencil ever touches paper or nails are driven into wood. Specific processes and strategies are implemented throughout the entire evolution of each project in order to maximize the energy efficiency and minimize the environmental impact in and around the site. In many cases, the opportunity presents itself to overlap architectural concepts with the realistic and efficient practices of a builder or craftsmen.

WHO

TRAVIS KLINE ……  President of TALK By Design, has been in the building industry for over 14 years both as a designer and a builder. Graduating from the University of Notre Dame with an accredited Bachelor’s of Architecture Degree, he started his first business as a Landscaper when he was a teenager.  After college he worked at a small, green architectural firm in Saratoga Springs, NY, then collaborated with fellow Stonemason Jeff Davidson to start the reputable company known as DKStoneworks.  Soon after, his knowledge and interest in alternative energy and green building sparked the motivation to start his own firm, TALK By Design.  Travis continues to be involved in the positive development of his community and it’s surround areas in hopes of creating awareness of sustainable lifestyles and building practices.
